Many people out there are looking for how to setup their LG 55G2 Google TV or other Google TV with Comcast-Xfinity or other cable providers.  While I've only set mine up with Comcast-Xfinity, I'm sure that if you have another cable provider, chances are you'll see need a similar setup

The first thing you have to make sure you have correct is the wiring.

  • The source coaxel cable goes to the HD Cable Box input.
  • Connect the HDMI cable to the HD Cable Box and then to the HDMI Input on your Google TV.  Some people say you need to user a very good HDMI cable for this to work.  I simply used the HDMI cable that was provided to me from Comcast-Xfinity.
  • Connect the IR Blaster to the TV.

The next thing that you need to do is activate your cable box (if you have not done so already).  This should be a quick and easy one click process with the remote, but I had to call Comcast-Xfinity to get the box activated.  Once activated, you need to allow all of the channels and data to download.  This entire process can take up to an hour (it took mine about 40 minutes).

Once all of the channels and data are downloaded (you'll be able to use the Comcast-Xfinity on screen tv-guide effectively), you'll want to setup the tv so that you can use your Google TV remote instead of the Comcast-Xfinity remote.  In order to do this, you'll need to place the 'eye' of the IR Blaster/Emitter cord in front of your cable box so that it is directly visible with your cable box remote sensor.

Now you'll want to use your Google TV remote and go to settings. For your input devices, you'll want to manually setup the HDMI Input that your Comcast-Xfinity HD Cable box is connected to.  Follow the steps, it will ask you for your cable box manfacturer. If you have one of the cable boxes that doesn't have the manufactures name, you may need to guess.  Based on the serial number, I chose Pace and I was right.  You'll know right away because it will have you change the cable box channel using your Google TV remote. You'll go through this process with the cable box until you're remote can change the channel.  Once you've found the right box and code, you'll need to choose your cable provider.  For me it was 'Comcast - Romeoville Digital' (note: romeoville is a town that is close to me).  When you've gotten through this process, you'll need to go back into your cable box hdmi input and click on the "this device is searchable".  If you don't choose this option, you won't be able to search the cable tv shows and you won't be able to use the Awesome 'PrimeTime' on-screen show/channel  guide.

Once you've completed adding your cable box. Google TV will tell you it was successful and it has downloaded all of your channel information.  This is a lie.  It will be successfully setup, but please allow 30 to 60 minutes for your Google TV to collect and organize all of the data.

Finally, once everything is in, restart your LG 55G2 Google TV.  Open the PrimeTime app.  you may have to restart a couple times, but once the guide is working you will be good to go!  Enjoy your LG 55G2 Awesome, I mean Google TV.
